Come out to Black Squirrel Books as we hear from award winning poets. Jessica Hiemstra is a visual artist and widely published poet who recently corralled and edited poems along with Gillian Sze for the anthology Translating Horses - the line, the thread, the underside (Baseline Press, 2015). Rachel Rose is the Poet Laurete of Vancouver and has won awards for poetry, fiction, and non-fiction, including a 2014 and 2016 Pushcart Prize.

Have you got some poems that still need some work? Then come by before the reading for our Tree Seed Workshop with Susan McMaster.

6:45PM: Hard Editing with Susan McMaster
Bring 1–3 draft poems you want to edit, and lots of paper/pens/pencils/erasers, or an electronic device you can work on. Bring 3 paper copies of 1 of the poems. We’ll try a dozen ways to do a tough and fruitful self-editing job before you bring your drafts to a workshop or public reading.

8PM: Featured Readers
JESSICA HIEMSTRA was the winner of the Malahat Review’s 2010 Open Season Award for Non-Fiction, a finalist for the 2010 Winston Collins/Descant Prize for Best Canadian Poem, and the winner of the 2009 Vancouver International Writers and Readers Festival poetry award. Her third trade collection, The Holy Nothing, is slated for publication with Pedlar Press in October 2016. She's working on a novel she hopes to finish before she dies.

RACHEL ROSE is the Poet Laureate of Vancouver for 2014-2017. A chapbook, Thirteen Ways of Looking at CanLit, is recently out from BookThug, and a new collection, Marry & Burn, is forthcoming from Harbour in 2015.
