“Fugitive”, as it refers to colour, refers to change in colour as a result of exposure to air and light. Of all the colours, red is the most fugitive – which means that red, more than other colours, is most dynamic. Exposed to air and light, it changes. Jessica wanted to explore this thought as it related to mortality. Do we fade, or do age dynamically? Jessica painted these on watercolour paper with fugitive reds (cherry, kool-aid, beet, sumac, raspberries and all sorts of other red pigments) so that the paintings, like our bodies, change through time. Also, Jessica liked being able to lick her brush while she painted. These are available in the print-shop as large signed posters.
