These illustrations first appeared with a suite of poems Jessica wrote and illustrated for Dandelion Magazine (vol 35.2, 2010). The poems are a tribute to Jana Sterbak’s meat dress. Jessica wrote about hiding some beef from her sweetheart in the couch so she could think about mortality. She says in the poems: “As we exit, those of us who have a scrap sense learn to dance.” Whether or not she should have hidden beef in the couch, Jessica’s still pretty sure we should dance so long as we’re on this earth. And maybe even after we leave, if we can.
